Chapters 1 - 2 - DUX TEFL
Fundamental TEFL/TESOL Section
Specialised Teaching English Online Section

Chapters 1 – 2

The first two chapters provide an introduction to Dux Recruitment (in this course may be referred to as Dux) as an education provider and broadly define the English teaching industry. You will also be introduced to teaching approaches (including the various characteristics thereof) and how they can be used to prepare lessons in correlation with the needs of a specific class. We will also run through the teacher code of practice – which outlines the values and ideals that all teachers should strive to implement throughout their teaching journey. This will be followed by a summary of the role of the English teacher in the classroom.

Hours breakdown:

  • Chapter 1: About Dux Recruitment: 13 hours
  • Chapter 2: Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) Theory: 20 hours

The objectives here are to:

  • Introduce Dux and the English education industry along with relevant terminology.
  • Discuss why we focus on the ESA Approach and Communicative Approach as the foundations for our lesson plan structure.
  • Discuss these approaches in more detail along with various other traditional teaching methods.
  • Compare accuracy and fluency and how they fit in with the characteristics of other teaching approaches.
  • Explore the Dux approach to lesson planning as well as the actual structure of the Dux lesson plan.
  • Provide new teachers basic yet solid understanding of the English teaching role.
  • Explore how teaching goes far further than what we see in the classroom but also depends on a teacher’s approach to improving their own lessons through self-evaluation.
