General Category

1TEFL vs TESOL vs TEFL/TESOL - what’s the difference?

The Dux TEFL/TESOL Courses are designed to offer the best combination of academic and practical English teaching education.

For those who may not be aware - Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) are often used interchangeably. However, there is a slight difference in these types of courses. TEFL courses often focus on the more academic and theoretical side of learning and teaching the English language (popular with native English speakers); while TESOL tends to focus more on the practical application of everyday life (popular with non-native English speakers). Both types of courses empower teachers to help students improve their English and can have a lot of overlap between them, which explains why so many people tend to confuse the two terms.

However, the academic developers at Dux wanted to ensure all of our students received the best of both worlds, so they intentionally developed a course that included the academic English theory of TEFL and the practical everyday application of TESOL. This is just another way that the Dux team ensure that the students who complete our TEFL/TESOL courses are properly prepared and able to teach with confidence.

13Certificate Authentication - what it is, why you need it, where to get it done?
Some countries (mainly China), require that any TEFL/TESOL certificate must be authenticated to apply for a work visa. A hard copy certificate with the original signature of the TEFL course director is required to have it authenticated. This is usually done by a notary public attorney. Not all countries require authentication, so be sure to check the visa requirements of the country you are applying to.
