Job Title: Nanny or Manny

About this Job: Nannies care for a child or children between the ages of 0 - 5 years. They provide a nurturing environment that is safe and happy for the child/ren in their care. This position is usually a live-in one, where the nanny stays on the same property as the private family (in their own room or apartment).

Roles and Responsibilities: Nannies help families with feeding, cleaning up and light housekeeping for the child/ren in their care, as well as fetching and dropping off children at extramural activities. This role often includes other general childcare duties, such as playing and socialisation. If a nanny were to be qualified with a Dux TEFL/TESOL certificate, they may be more hands-on with other educational activities like English language development. This role is often compared to an au pair, however, au pairs tend to look after older children and do not take on any housekeeping duties.

Salary Range: Between $2000 USD - $5000 USD per month on average, however, with a Dux TEFL certification, you could earn as much as $6000 USD per month! It’s worth noting that since nannies are live-in positions, additional expenses like board and lodging as well as food are taken care of. This means there is a great opportunity to save your salary or splurge on spoiling yourself. On that note, when the families go away on holiday, nannies join along. Job Title: Governor or Governess

About this Job: By working with private families; governors/governesses educate and mentor the child/ren in their care - developing their academic accomplishments and personal developments. These children are usually over the age of 5 years old and take part in a range of academic subjects and learning areas. Governors and governesses are usually highly experienced and qualified, making this job title a goal for anyone in the foreign teaching market.

Roles and Responsibilities: Governors and governesses are education specialists that teach the child/ren a range of subjects based on the curriculum(s) the family has selected. Salary Range: Between $3500 USD - $8000 USD per month on average, depending on how many children they teach and how many lessons they facilitate. Bear in mind that there have been instances where governors and governesses have earned even more than that per month, making this the highest paying role as a private educator. However, this is also the most difficult job to attain as employers require candidates who have a wealth of knowledge, qualifications, and experience (preferably with other private families).

Requirements:
  • Matric Diploma
  • Bachelor’s Degree*
  • TEFL / TESOL / CELTA*
  • Additional Teaching Qualification (Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and/or Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE))*
